Electrical contractor software: compare the workflow, not just the price.

Service calls, troubleshooting, panel upgrades, EV charger installations, larger projects, and inspection follow-ups can all place different demands on an electrical business. Compare how each platform handles estimates, crews, job documentation, payments, and profitability before committing.

Research checked November 6, 2026 · Prices shown in USD · Vendor features and pricing can change.

Start with the kind of electrical work you do. A business focused on residential service calls may prioritize fast dispatch, customer history, and quote approvals. A contractor handling panel upgrades, rewires, commercial work, or multi-stage installations may need progress billing, project tracking, purchase orders, and job costing. Ask vendors to demonstrate your actual workflow.

What should electrical contractors evaluate?

1. Service dispatch and emergency work

Ask how quickly a dispatcher can add an urgent call, identify an available electrician, and adjust the rest of the day's schedule. Check whether the system can assign work by location, availability, or skill; share job details with technicians; and notify customers when arrival windows change. Test the mobile experience rather than relying on a sales presentation.

2. Estimates for repairs and larger installations

Electrical estimates may range from a troubleshooting visit to a panel replacement, dedicated circuit, generator, or EV charger installation. Check whether quotes support photos, detailed scopes, optional line items, reusable templates, customer approval, deposits, and revisions. For larger projects, ask whether approved quotes can become jobs without duplicate entry.

3. Project scheduling and progress billing

For multi-day work, ask whether the software can organize phases, milestones, crew assignments, materials, and planned versus actual labor. Confirm whether it supports deposits and progress invoices tied to milestones, and whether office staff can see project status without chasing technicians for updates.

4. Job documentation and customer history

Check how the platform stores job photos, notes, checklists, signatures, estimates, invoices, and prior service history. Ask whether the business can keep records for multiple service locations under one customer and retrieve them quickly during a return visit. Decide what technicians should be able to see or edit.

5. Pricebooks, purchasing, and job costing

Ask whether material and labor pricebooks can be standardized, whether purchase orders can be tied to a job, and how actual labor and material costs are captured. Have the vendor demonstrate how the system calculates job profitability and handles a change order. Confirm which tier includes each feature.

6. Invoicing, payments, and accounting

Test how an invoice is created from completed work, whether deposits and progress payments are supported, and how customers can pay. Request the full processing-fee schedule and payout terms. Verify the exact accounting integration and whether it syncs customers, invoices, line items, and payments in the way your bookkeeper expects.

7. Seats, permissions, and total cost

Count field electricians, dispatchers, estimators, project managers, and office staff. Confirm which roles require paid seats and whether limited field access is available. Compare the first-year cash outlay, including annual prepayment, onboarding, add-ons, payment processing, and the cost of adding or removing users.

Questions to ask during a demo

How the four options differ

Jobber

Jobber's electrical product information highlights optional estimate line items, quote follow-ups, dispatch, mobile job details, job costing, progress invoicing, and customer history. It may be worth shortlisting when service work and customer-facing estimates are central. Confirm the plan needed for your team size and the specific financial or automation tools you intend to use.

Housecall Pro

Housecall Pro describes a dedicated Electrical Package with an electrical KPI dashboard and purchase orders on the Basic tier, while sales proposals, membership plans, and pricebook commissions are shown on Essentials, and Pipeline on MAX. Its help documentation notes that included features depend on tier. Get a current quote that clearly lists the package and every included feature.

Service Fusion

Service Fusion's electrical page emphasizes scheduling, dispatch, estimates, job conversion, mobile job information, customer communication, payments, and QuickBooks. Its unlimited-user pricing model may be relevant for larger teams, but the subscription tier still matters. Confirm whether the features you need are included in Starter or require an upgrade.

FieldPulse

FieldPulse's electrical page highlights scheduling by crew workload, pricebooks, live technician tracking, project timelines, milestones, resource assignments, estimating, invoicing, and profitability dashboards. Pricing is customized and seat-based, so ask for a written quote with the number and type of seats, contract term, optional products, and implementation costs itemized.

Important limitation: Contractor Software Finder has not independently hands-on tested these products. This guide summarizes vendor-published product and pricing information; it does not verify vendor performance or claim that one platform is best for every electrical business. Features may depend on plan, region, or add-ons.
